Carly Simon Weighs In on Sabrina Carpenter’s Controversial Album Cover

Carly Simon has come out swinging in defense of Sabrina Carpenter’s new album cover, which has been making waves online. The legendary singer-songwriter says she doesn’t see the fuss, calling it “tame” and comparing it unfavorably to other provocative covers from the past.

Simon, who hasn’t released a new album since 2009, has been working on new music in secret over the past decade. Her latest songs, produced by her son Ben and featuring guest vocals from Nile Rodgers and Chris Stills, showcase her signature blend of wit and vulnerability.

Speaking to Simon about the controversy surrounding Carpenter’s cover, she reveals that she received a mixed reaction when she first released her own “sexiest” album, Playing Possum in 1977. Critics panned some of the song titles, while others praised the image.

“It felt very much like that energy in a woman,” says Seeff, who photographed the iconic cover. But Simon disagrees, saying it was simply a beautiful shot and not intended to convey any deeper meaning.

Simon’s advice to Carpenter? “Any press is good press.” She praises the young singer for owning her beauty and not apologizing for it. The two singers have been recognized for their mutual admiration – both have covered “You’re So Vain” live, and Simon recently shouted out Carpenter’s later album, Boys in the Trees.

Simon has one final thought on the cover: “I thought it was going over the line a little bit, touching the man’s knee.” However, this criticism is minor compared to the overall message of confidence and empowerment that simon conveys through her words.
