Carnie Wilson, star of the 1990s girl group Wilson Phillips, has been joined by her daughter Lola and sister Wendy for a new take on their classic hit “Hold On” in the upcoming American Idol auditions. The 19-year-old Lola gets her chance to shine solo, showcasing her harmonies alongside her famous mom and aunt.
The trio performed the iconic song, with Lola impressing fans and judges alike with her rendition of the classic tune. While it’s unclear if “Hold On” was Lola’s intended audition song, Carnie revealed that she chose American Idol as a perfect platform for Lola to explore different genres and artists.
Carnie compared her daughter’s style to that of Joni Mitchell and Kacey Musgraves, saying that Lola has a unique voice with an honest and pure tone. The singer also advised her daughter to be grateful for the opportunity and to trust her instincts as an artist.
As a musical family, Carnie and Wendy are no strangers to sharing their talents on reality TV shows. The two have appeared together on The Kelly Clarkson Show, singing alongside Clarkson, and had previously competed on Fox’s We Are Family.
