Carnival Cruise Line is facing backlash after introducing new policies that some Black passengers claim are discriminatory and racist. The rules, which include strict bans on marijuana use and certain types of music, have led to a wave of cancellations and sparked debate about the company’s commitment to diversity.
The changes were made in June with the intention of enhancing safety and improving the guest experience. However, many travelers feel that the message is exclusionary, saying they are no longer welcome at Carnival cruises.
One TikToker canceled her reservation due to what she described as a clear message from Carnival that it no longer values Black culture.
Among the new policies are a zero-tolerance stance on marijuana and strict rules on public decks for minors. The cruise line also allegedly banned the popular “Wobble” dance, claiming safety concerns over loud fans.
Critics argue that these restrictions unfairly target Black cultural expression and limit hip-hop and rap music played in onboard clubs.
“I’ve never seen a Carnival cruise video that made me want to go,” one commenter wrote. Another described the company as the “Walmart of cruise lines.”
The debate highlights concerns about representation and inclusivity at Carnival Cruise Line.
