Cars Get High-Tech Makeovers at CES 2024

Automakers showcased their latest innovations in in-vehicle experiences at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, highlighting advancements in interior lighting, holographic displays, and AI-powered voice assistants.

Hyundai Mobis unveiled a full-windshield holographic technology that projects information such as driving speed and safety alerts across the entire windshield. The system is designed to keep drivers focused on the road while keeping other distractions out of sight. BMW also showcased its new Panoramic iDrive, which projects a panoramic display onto the lower windscreen.

Honda and Sony Honda Mobility announced features for their upcoming electric vehicles, including an interactive AI-powered voice agent called Afeela 1. This system will be integrated into vehicle operations, providing personalized recommendations and information to drivers.

Industry analysts noted that while there’s excitement around these new features, they also raise questions about how many technologies are too much to handle in a car. However, experts believe that integrating technology like AI can improve the driving experience by reducing distractions and providing more convenient services.

The companies’ focus on sustainability is also evident, with Honda announcing plans to expand access to charging stations for its EV customers. The company aims to provide over 100,000 charging stations by 2030 and explore ways to personalize charging experiences using AI technology from Amazon Web Services.
