Carson Hocevar is gearing up for his upcoming races at Michigan, a track he knows well. With impressive speed all season, Hocevar has been maximizing results with his aggressive driving style, but it hasn’t come without drawing the ire of several rivals.
A notable incident occurred at Nashville, where Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s car spun off the nose of Hocevar’s, resulting in Stenhouse’s first DNF of the season. Hocevar finished second that day, narrowly missing his first NASCAR Cup Series victory.
Spire Motorsports team boss Jeff Dickerson addressed the issue on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “Behind the wheel, he’s doing everything we’ve asked of him,” Dickerson said. “We can’t slow him down. We feel like the whole series has looked at us for a few years and been surprised by our performance.”
Dickerson acknowledged that Hocevar needs to refine his driving style, saying, “There are some things I’d like him to round out a couple of the edges.” However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining Hocevar’s speed. “We don’t want to slow him down. We feel like we’ve got a lot of talent in this team.”
Dickerson praised Stenhouse and Hyak Motorsports, calling the driver and team his “good friends.” He also highlighted Hocevar’s dedication to self-improvement, saying, “He’s always looking for ways to get better. He’s got a great attitude and a willingness to learn.”
Hocevar echoed these sentiments in an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “I look at Jeff for not just race car advice but life advice,” he said. “We work nonstop about communication, racing ourselves and others, and finding the right balance.”
As Hocevar heads to Michigan, his home track, he’ll be competing in both the Truck and Cup Series races with Spire Motorsports. With his aggressive driving style getting more attention, Hocevar is focused on refining it without losing his edge.
