A brand of raw cat food, Wild Coast Raw’s Frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula, has been recalled by the FDA due to potential contamination with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1, also known as bird flu. The affected products were distributed in Washington and Oregon and have a specific lot number range.
Pet owners should be aware of the risks associated with eating this food or handling it. If your cat has eaten the recalled product, watch for symptoms such as fever, lethargy, low appetite, reddened eyes, discharge from the eyes and nose, difficulty breathing, and neurological signs like tremors and seizures.
If you suspect bird flu in your pet, contact your vet immediately. For human exposure, if you experience eye redness or flu-like symptoms after handling the contaminated product, contact your doctor promptly.
The affected products can be identified by their lot numbers: #22660, #22653, #22641, #22639, #22672, and #22664. Owners should throw out the recalled product securely to prevent other animals from accessing it. A refund is also available upon request from Wild Coast Raw at (360) 591-3543.
