Catch Geminids Meteor Shower on Friday Night Sky

The Geminids, one of the strongest meteor showers of the year, peaks on Friday. This shower originates from asteroid debris and produces meteors with a distinctive yellow glow. Under ideal viewing conditions, it’s expected to display some of the best shows of the year.

However, an almost full moon this year will reduce visibility to up to 15 meteors per hour at peak time. Viewing can be enhanced by finding dark locations away from city lights and allowing your eyes to adapt.

The Geminids come from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon and produce fireballs due to the rocky nature of the debris. Best viewing times are between midnight and predawn hours, when skies are cloudless and the moon is in its waning phase. Avoid checking your phone during this time to improve meteor sightings.

The Geminids peak on Friday, with the next meteor shower, Ursids, occurring on December 22.
