CBS has emerged victorious in its long-standing legal battle with Sony Pictures Television over the distribution rights to Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. A Los Angeles judge approved a restraining order on February 5, blocking Sony from taking control of the shows’ distribution duties.
The dispute began in October 2024 when Sony sued CBS, alleging that the network was breaching its contract by underpaying for syndication rights to Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Sony claimed that CBS was favoring its own interests and pocketing millions in unauthorized distribution fees.
CBS disputed these allegations, arguing that it held the distribution rights to the shows “in perpetuity.” The company vowed to continue distributing the programs despite the legal battle ahead.
The latest ruling gives CBS a temporary reprieve, allowing it to maintain control over Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune for now. However, the case is expected to move forward, with a status conference scheduled for February 18.
