CD Projekt Red has shared more footage of its upcoming Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077, titled the “Ultimate Edition.” The game will launch on June 5 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. In a recent Creator’s Voice video, the studio’s vice president of technology Charles Tremblay explained that the Switch 2’s hardware makes it the best handheld experience for the game.
Tremblay stated that while the game is still the same as players know, the new hardware enables an enhanced experience. He highlighted the use of the Joy-Con controllers to fight with katana swords and praised the game’s LCD screens with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support.
This Switch 2 version marks CD Projekt Red’s first port specifically designed for a handheld device, unlike other versions available on PC systems like Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. The studio’s engineer Tim Green noted that the hardware has allowed them to create a more capable version of Cyberpunk 2077 than was initially possible on last-gen consoles.
The game faced issues with performance on older consoles at launch but will now be available in its Ultimate Edition, which includes previously released content for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. With ongoing updates and improvements, CD Projekt Red has aimed to preserve the game’s vision while optimizing it for Switch 2 hardware.
