The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a long history of fighting HIV in the US. Over 15 years, it has made significant progress, with an amfAR analysis showing a nearly 20% reduction in new HIV infections from 2010 to 2022. However, the government is now proposing drastic cuts in funding for the CDC’s Division of HIV Prevention.
This cut would lead to a dramatic rise in HIV infections, deaths, and costs. Without increased funding, the momentum gained over the past decade would be lost, and the US epidemic would worsen considerably.
