This Saturday marks the 23rd edition of Jerry Day, an annual celebration of legendary Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia, coinciding with special milestones including the renaming of his childhood street in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood. The event features a day of musical performances at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park.
Jerry Day also falls on the second of three sold-out Dead & Company shows in Golden Gate Park honoring the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s founding, with band members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart performing alongside other musicians. The amphitheater bearing Garcia’s name is set to turn 20 this year, while a new street renaming ceremony will take place on Friday.
The event is described as “a great day of music” with performances by Stu Allen and Mars Hotel, Peter Rowan, Melvin Seals, and JGB. Local businesses and organizations have collaborated for an evening market featuring live music, art, food, and games.
Jerry Day honors the spirit of the Grateful Dead and shines a light on the neighborhood’s musical history, with attendees expected to enjoy a “soulful tribute” to 60 years of the iconic band. The event is open to the public and promises to be an unforgettable experience for music lovers from around the country who attend annually.
