Celebrating Life of Pioneering Black Trans Activist Miss Major Griffin-Gracy

A memorial will be held on December 6 to honor the life of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a renowned Black transgender activist who dedicated over 50 years to fighting for justice and equality. The celebration at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco will feature music, testimonies, poetry, and collective reflection.

Notable speakers include Angela Davis, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, Congressmember Lateefah Simon, and Marvin K. White, who will pay tribute to Miss Major’s legacy as a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community. The event is presented by the TGI Justice Project, which Miss Major once led, in collaboration with City of Refuge UCC and Glide.

The celebration is open to the public and marks the first anniversary since Miss Major’s passing on October 13 at the age of 78.
