Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis led his team to a 118-106 win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. The 7-foot-2 big man put forth his best performance of the season, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while blocking one shot.
Porzingis finished just one point shy of his season-high in scoring and made his first double-digit rebound effort of the campaign. He played a comfortable game, which he attributed to feeling “good” and getting back into shape after missing time due to injury.
The Celtics’ star center dominated the first quarter with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, tying his highest-scoring quarter in a Celtics uniform. After briefly leaving the floor due to an incidental kick below the belt, Porzingis returned to action and continued to play at a high level.
His teammates praised his performance, saying it came at just the right time to help close out a 3-1 road trip. Jayson Tatum noted that Porzingis’ energy and physicality on offense were much-needed, while Joe Mazzulla credited him with bringing an extra layer of intensity to both ends of the floor.
Having Porzingis near full strength adds another dynamic to Boston’s already dominant offense, and his teammates are confident that he will help them become nearly unbeatable when he plays well. As Jrue Holiday said, “When KP’s playing well, we’re pretty tough to beat.”
