Devolver Digital’s latest title, Mycopunk, has officially launched as a chaotic co-op first-person shooter (FPS) that promises mayhem and excitement for fans of sci-fi action games. The game’s demo is now available on Steam, giving players a taste of what’s in store.
In Mycopunk, players take on the role of extermination robots working for space travel company Saxon, tasked with investigating a distant moon after communication loss. A fungal catastrophe awaits, and it’s up to these ragtag teams of robots to clean up the mess.
Gameplay focuses on movement, unique guns, and an outrageous upgrade system that encourages creative builds. Four distinct characters – Wrangler, Bruiser, Scrapper, and Glider – each offer synergies when used together but can also be played solo. With no character limits, players can switch between characters freely.
Mission-based gameplay takes players to various biomes on the moon’s surface, where they face swarms of alien creatures and mini-bosses in chaotic combat. The twist? Enemies are composed of individual parts that must be disassembled to reach their vulnerable core. However, dismembered limbs can become liabilities, adding an extra layer of complexity.
Upgrades play a significant role in Mycopunk’s gameplay, offering four tiers of effects and 40 upgrades per weapon. These upgrades can be installed in a Tetris-style grid with limited size, introducing a new twist to build customization.
Post-launch plans include narrative content, new enemies, and enemy parts, as well as community-driven upgrade development. While the launch date remains vague, Devolver Digital is eager for players to experience Mycopunk’s chaotic co-op gameplay.
