Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater left Thursday’s practice on a medical cart due to an apparent left leg injury. Slater was helping outside linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu during a team drill when he collapsed, grabbing his leg and unable to continue.
Tuipulotu said he didn’t see what happened but prayed for Slater’s well-being. Many Chargers players approached Slater as he exited practice, with some visibly frustrated. The incident occurred just 11 days after Slater signed a four-year $114 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman by average annual pay in NFL history.
Coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman prioritize dominant rushing attacks, making offensive linemen crucial to their success. With Slater potentially out for significant time, the team may move Joe Alt to left tackle and Trey Pipkins to right tackle. Becton’s injury is reportedly minor, but he hasn’t practiced since July 28.
The injury dampened what was supposed to be an exciting day at Chargers practice, with wide receiver Keenan Allen returning after agreeing to a one-year deal Tuesday.
