Chase Briscoe’s NASCAR career took an unexpected turn when he left his former team, Stewart-Haas Racing, to join powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing. The move came as a surprise, but Briscoe is now reaping the benefits of being part of one of the sport’s most successful teams.
Briscoe’s first win with JGR came at Pocono Raceway, where he edged out Denny Hamlin by 0.682 seconds. The victory marked his third career Cup Series win and earned him a spot in the playoffs. Briscoe praised the team’s championship standards, saying they had “set the bar high” for him to follow.
As part of JGR, Briscoe has been tasked with living up to expectations. “It’s definitely more work, but it’s because they’re at such a high level,” he said. The pressure is evident in his words, as he acknowledged that racing with teammates who are winning has been a big adjustment for him.
Briscoe’s win marked JGR’s 18th Cup victory at Pocono, and it came after the team took a chance on him despite having only recently lost Martin Truex Jr. The driver credited his crew chief, James Small, with helping him improve his performance.
The win also set Briscoe up for a strong playoff push, with nine races remaining until the field is set. With JGR’s expertise and championship standards to back him up, Briscoe is well-positioned to make a deep run in the playoffs.
