ChatGPT Gains Tasks Feature for Scheduling Reminders and Repetitive Work

OpenAI has introduced a new feature called Tasks in its popular chatbot ChatGPT. The beta version allows users to direct the AI assistant to send reminders, respond to specific prompts at set times, and perform recurring tasks. This update is available to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers starting today.

To create a task, users select “Create with scheduled tasks” from the model picker and provide plain language text prompts similar to those used for other chatbot interactions. ChatGPT may also suggest tasks, but these require user approval before going into effect.

Users can manage assigned tasks through conversations or a dedicated Tasks section in the app. There’s currently a 10-task limit. When it’s time to perform an assigned task, the mobile or desktop app will send notifications at scheduled times.

This feature marks OpenAI’s entry into the agentic AI space, where applications can operate independently within certain boundaries, potentially replacing or easing information workers’ day-to-day responsibilities.
