ChatGPT Launches “Tasks” Feature for Scheduling and Reminders

OpenAI is rolling out a new feature called “Tasks” to its Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers, allowing users to schedule future actions and reminders. The feature aims to make ChatGPT more like a traditional digital assistant.

To use Tasks, users select the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in ChatGPT’s model picker and type out what they need done and when it should be completed. The system can also suggest tasks based on conversations, but users must approve these suggestions before they’re created.

Tasks can be managed directly in chat threads or through a new section in the profile menu, making it easy to modify or cancel tasks. Upon completion of these tasks, notifications will alert users on web, desktop, and mobile. There’s a limit of 10 active tasks that can run simultaneously.

The feature is currently available for paid subscribers only, with OpenAI offering monthly $20 and $200 subscription tiers. While scheduling capabilities are common in digital assistants, ChatGPT’s addition of Tasks marks a shift in its functionality, expanding beyond real-time conversations into more traditional assistant territory.

OpenAI is also working on other ambitious features, including the release of an autonomous AI agent called “Operator” this month and a project codenamed “Caterpillar” that could integrate with Tasks. The company aims to monetize expensive AI infrastructure through these features, but questions remain about reliability and how well ChatGPT will deliver accurate information in time-sensitive situations.

For now, users can start experimenting with Tasks by looking for the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in their model picker. However, it’s still in beta, so users should exercise caution when relying on it for important reminders or tasks.
