ChatGPT Shared Chats Removed from Search Results

OpenAI has removed chats from public search results following the rollout of its shared links feature in May 2023. The feature allowed users to share their conversations, but raised concerns about accidental sharing of private information. As a result, all chats linked with the site:chatgpt.com/share query are no longer visible on Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. However, the feature still rolls out to some users, and other search engines may index these conversations. OpenAI’s CISO Dan Stuckey explained that the company is working to remove indexed content from relevant search engines. The removal comes as a precaution after people unintentionally shared their personal conversations publicly, potentially compromising sensitive information. Users can take steps to prevent this by manually disabling sharing or deleting their accounts if they choose not to use the feature.
