A group of organizations tied to Cesar Chavez are distancing themselves from the civil-rights icon after allegations emerged that he abused women and girls during his prominent years in the 1960s and ’70s. The United Farm Workers Union, co-founded by Chavez, has decided not to participate in this year’s Chavez Day celebrations due to “deeply troubling” accusations of Chavez engaging in “inappropriate sexual behavior with women and minors.”
