A 23-year-old employee at a Checkers drive-thru in Kissimmee, Florida, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a customer who complained about his order. Elijah Travis Mackey claimed the customer insulted him during their verbal dispute over the food.
The incident occurred on May 21 at around 10:10 p.m. local time, when the customer, identified as Wesley Robertson, began complaining to a female employee about his order. According to eyewitnesses, Robertson was asking for mayonnaise packets and had requested to speak with a manager. A second witness reported that Robertson insulted Mackey, calling him “a bitch” or “p—-.”
Mackey allegedly pulled out a small handgun from his waistband and shot Robertson in the chest. The victim was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The employee fled the scene on foot but was later found hiding under a stairwell at a nearby hotel. Authorities discovered a gun on Mackey’s person during his arrest. When questioned about Robertson’s condition, Mackey reportedly asked, “Is dude okay?” several times.
Mackey is currently being held in the Osceola County Jail and has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder. Checkers officials have stated that the actions of this employee do not reflect the company’s values and are cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the incident.
