Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk has revealed he was shocked to receive news of a positive drugs test result from the Football Association, with reports suggesting a prohibited substance was found in an “A” sample taken at the end of October. The FA rules state that a player notified of a positive test result can be provisionally suspended pending a right of reply and subsequent testing of a ‘B’ sample.
Mudryk, 23, has denied knowingly using any banned substances, stating he is working closely with his team to investigate the incident. He claimed to have never intentionally broken any rules or used prohibited substances in the past. The Chelsea winger has missed the club’s last five matches due to illness cited by head coach Enzo Maresca.
The FA and Chelsea have declined to confirm Mudryk’s provisional suspension, but both parties are working with relevant authorities to establish the cause of the adverse finding. If confirmed, a lengthy ban up to four years could be triggered for Mudryk.
