Cher’s 48-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, was rushed to the hospital after an overdose in Joshua Tree, California on Saturday morning. He is reportedly receiving the best care possible and is “lucky to have survived.” The cause of the overdose is unclear.
Elijah has struggled with substance abuse since his teenage years. In 2014, he spoke about starting to use drugs at age 11 to escape his past. Since then, he has experienced close calls and moments of feeling at the edge of mortality.
Cher, who was married to Elijah’s late father Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979, is focused on her son’s well-being and seeking help for him. Her estranged wife Marieangela King had accused Cher of attempting to kidnap Elijah to get him into rehab. However, Cher denied the allegations.
Elijah has been dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues since his youth, which led Cher to apply for conservatorship in December 2023, citing that he could not manage his finances due to these issues. The case was later dismissed in September 2024.
