Chevrolet has unveiled a concept car, the CX, at its design center in Warren, Michigan. The concept represents the future direction of the iconic Corvette, but it’s not meant to be the next-generation C9. Instead, it’s a collaborative effort between the teams from the U.S., California, and the U.K. to refine their designs.
The CX is an all-electric vehicle with four electric motors providing 2,000 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful production cars ever built. Its aerodynamics are enhanced by massive ducts under the car, active front splitter, and rear wing. The design also features a unique canopy instead of doors, which houses a head-up display (HUD) that projects vital information onto the windshield.
The interior boasts a unique yoke steering wheel with touchscreen and physical controls, while the bright red interior pays homage to the 1959 Chevrolet Sting Ray Concept. A racing version of the CX, called the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, is coming soon to the Gran Turismo gaming franchise, offering an immersive racing experience.
While the production of a Corvette sub-brand seems unlikely, these concepts aim to “elevate the Corvette name within the Chevrolet brand.” The future of the Corvette looks promising, with innovations like advanced aerodynamics and electric powertrains set to redefine the sportscar’s identity.
