A 64-year-old man was hospitalized over the weekend after his tug truck at Chicago O’Hare International Airport was struck by an aircraft wing. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the man attempted to cross the taxiway. The vehicle flipped over, pinning him underneath, and he was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition.
The 64-year-old sustained head and lower body injuries but no passengers on board the aircraft were hurt. An investigation is underway by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Chicago Police Department. United Airlines has confirmed that its tug truck made contact with another airline’s aircraft while taxiing, and it is ensuring the employee receives necessary support.
The incident occurred during Air Wisconsin Flight 6181’s landing at O’Hare Airport, which came from Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan. The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ-200, made contact with the United Airlines tug truck on an active taxiway around 7:35 p.m. local time.
