Chicago Blackhawks Fire Luke Richardson, Name Anders Sorensen Interim Coach

The Chicago Blackhawks have fired coach Luke Richardson and named Anders Sorensen, 49, the interim head coach. Sorensen is the first Sweden-born coach in NHL history. General manager Kyle Davidson announced the move on Friday, saying it’s an opportunity for Sorensen to show his skills.

Richardson’s three-season tenure was marked by a 57-118-15 record, with the team currently last in the league at 8-16-2. The Blackhawks have lost four consecutive games and failed to win since a brief stretch against the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars in November.

Davidson cited the need for change after the team’s recent struggles. “It wasn’t just one player or game, it was a series of things,” he said. The new coach will aim to stabilize the team’s performance. Sorensen will make his NHL coaching debut on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets.
