Several Chicago suburbs have made the list of the 250 Best Places to Live in the U.S., according to U.S. News & World Report. The magazine considers factors such as good value, job market, and quality of life.
Arlington Heights topped the list among Illinois communities, ranking 56th overall with a median household income of $114,653, average commute time of about 24 minutes, and an unemployment rate of 3.13%. Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia attributed the recognition to the village’s excellent schools, top library, public parks, restaurants, and community events.
Buffalo Grove ranked second in Illinois, finishing 63rd overall with a median household income of $133,839, average commute time of about 24 minutes, and an unemployment rate of 3.74%. Buffalo Grove Village President Eric Smith said the ranking was expected, citing his village’s motto “Smart. With Heart.”
Naperville finished third in Illinois, ranking 76th overall with a median household income of $147,382, average commute time of about 26 minutes, and an unemployment rate of 5.15%. Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli said the recognition highlighted the city’s commitment to quality of life.
The top 10 selections across the U.S. were: Johns Creek, Georgia; Carmel, Indiana; Pearland, Texas; Fishers, Indiana; Cary, North Carolina; League City, Texas; Apex, North Carolina; Leander, Texas; Rochester Hills, Michigan; and Troy, Michigan.
