Chiefs Advance to 7th Straight AFC Championship with Thrilling Win

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans, 23-14, on Saturday night, advancing to their seventh-straight AFC Championship game. Tight end Travis Kelce led the way with seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Coach Andy Reid praised his team’s effort, saying “we knocked a little rust off” and stayed positive throughout the game. The Chiefs’ defense racked up eight sacks on Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, helping to secure their eighth-straight playoff win.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown, leading the Chiefs to his 16th career postseason victory. Mahomes’ favorite target, Kelce, broke a tie with Jerry Rice for most games with at least 100 receiving yards in the playoffs.

The game was close throughout much of the contest, but the tipping point came when Mahomes fired an 11-yard touchdown pass to Kelce, extending Kansas City’s lead and securing their victory. The Chiefs’ defense then held strong, racking up eight sacks and 14 quarterback hits that prevented Houston from tying or taking the lead.

With the win, the Chiefs join a select group of teams that have won eight-straight postseason games, including the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. Coach Reid reported no injuries after the game, saying “everybody got through it” and they’re good.

The Chiefs will now await the winner of Sunday night’s matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills to see who they will host in the AFC Championship Game.
