Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday for talks on the war in Ukraine. The meeting, which also involves Russian President Vladimir Putin, aims to discuss “prospects for a resolution of the Ukraine crisis” and other international issues.
China, a key ally of Russia, has been critical of the conflict but is expected to support Russia’s position. Beijing’s proposed peace plan was rejected by Ukraine due to its alignment with Russian positions. As a veto power in the UN Security Council, China will play a significant role in any potential resolution efforts involving the UN.
The talks between Wang Yi and Lavrov come as tensions between Ukraine, Russia, and Western countries continue to escalate. The international community remains divided on how to address the crisis, with some calling for diplomatic solutions and others advocating for stronger economic sanctions against Russia.
