China has called US aircraft manufacturer Boeing a “victim” of President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, as two jets allocated to Chinese airline Xiamen Airlines have been returned to the US. The move comes after Boeing confirmed that some Chinese clients had stopped receiving deliveries of new jets.
In an online statement, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it hopes the US will create a stable and predictable environment for normal trade and investment activities. The ministry expressed willingness to continue supporting commercial cooperation between companies in both countries.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg previously confirmed that Chinese airlines had planned to purchase 50 aircraft from Boeing in 2025, but the situation has changed due to the tariffs imposed by Trump. The return of the jets is seen as an implicit olive branch from China, allowing Boeing to maintain some business ties with Chinese companies despite the trade tensions.
Analysts say Boeing will likely suffer as a result of the new development, as it had built up momentum in delivering aircraft to clients in 2025.
