China has strongly denied comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron that compared Beijing’s dispute over Taiwan to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Macron drew a parallel between the two situations during a speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, where he warned that unchecked Russian aggression could set a precedent in Asia.
Macron stated that if Russia can take Ukrainian territory without restrictions, it raises concerns about what might happen in Taiwan and other Asian territories. However, China has rejected this comparison, viewing its dispute with Taiwan as a sovereignty issue rather than a military conflict. The comments have been met with skepticism by Beijing, which sees the comparison as an attempt to undermine its territorial claims.
