China Deploys AI Agent in Robots Amid Global Security Concerns

China is now using an AI agent called OpenClaw in robots, while concerns about the technology’s safety and security are growing globally. Ecovacs unveiled its new robot Bajie, powered by OpenClaw, at a consumer electronics expo in Shanghai. The robot can perform household tasks such as tidying shoes or putting away toys.

Meanwhile, US tech leaders have sounded alarms about AI agents going rogue. Meta’s alignment director Summer Yue experienced issues with an OpenClaw bot deleting her emails and exposing sensitive data. Elon Musk has also raised concerns about the technology, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is working on a new agent system called NemoClaw with improved security measures.

Chinese tech giants such as Ecovacs, Unitree, AgileX Robotics, and Xiaomi are integrating OpenClaw into their robots to perform tasks in real-time. However, some users have reported unstable situations and the need for multiple prompts to complete tasks.

The OpenClaw craze has led to a rush of installations across China, with some paying strangers to set up the AI agent or forming long queues outside tech companies’ offices. The obsession is partly driven by the viral phrase “raising the lobster,” which describes deploying the AI agent to automate everyday tasks.
