China has condemned criticism from Canada over the execution of four Canadian citizens holding dual citizenship on drug-related charges. The executions have further strained already tense relations between the two countries. According to local reports, Ottawa’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly confirmed that four Canadians were put to death by China earlier this year. Despite this, the Canadian government will continue to engage with Chinese authorities in an effort to secure leniency for other Canadians facing similar charges. The incidents have raised human rights concerns and added to the already strained diplomatic relationship between Canada and China.
