China Issues Warning for Lighter People Amid Severe Winds

Severe winds are expected to hit Beijing, Tianjin, and parts of Hebei from Friday to Sunday, prompting authorities to warn people weighing less than 50 kilograms to stay indoors. Gales up to 93 miles per hour are forecasted, with gusts predicted to reach levels 11-13 on China’s 17-level wind scale.

The meteorological service has issued an orange alert, the second-highest warning in a four-tier system, and advised over 22 million people to avoid non-essential travel. Social media is abuzz with related hashtags as authorities take precautions, including closing parks, tourist attractions, and construction sites.

Preparations are underway for extreme weather, with workers returning home early, schools suspending classes, and outdoor events cancelled. Transportation has been disrupted, with 56 train services cancelled on Friday and 103 on Saturday. China Southern Airlines has also cancelled flights.

Meteorologists predict the winds will weaken by Sunday night, with conditions expected to return to normal by Monday. As a precaution, lighter individuals are advised to stay indoors to avoid being blown away by the strong gusts.
