China has responded to President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs by imposing its own retaliatory measures, raising duties on all US goods from 84% to a staggering 125%. The move is seen as a significant escalation of the trade tensions between the two nations.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the new tariffs will take effect starting April 12. The White House had previously clarified that levies on Chinese goods rose to 145% this year, prompting China’s decision to match and then exceed Trump’s rates.
Beijing has effectively declared that it no longer considers US tariffs worth matching, labeling them a “joke”. This move is likely to further strain relations between the two countries, with implications for global trade and economic stability.
