China, Russia Strengthen Ties Amid Global Uncertainty

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed the “friendship forever, never enemies” principle between China and Russia during a visit to Moscow. The minister expressed his country’s willingness to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Wang is on a three-day visit to discuss strategic cooperation with Russian officials. The talks come amid uncertainty over a potential ceasefire in Ukraine and criticism from US President Donald Trump towards the Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

China and Russia have a “no limits” strategic partnership, with Chinese President Xi Jinping having met Putin over 40 times in the past decade. The two nations cooperate on issues like Taiwan, Ukraine, and their rivalry with the United States.

Wang stated that current global conditions require big powers to act as stabilizing factors, making it encouraging that Russia and the US are working to improve relations. He also welcomed the potential for a peace settlement in Ukraine, citing its importance in stabilizing the balance of power between major nations.

The minister expressed his support for Ukraine ceasefire talks, acknowledging that while progress has been made, more work needs to be done. Wang emphasized the need for a binding and acceptable peace agreement that addresses the root causes of the crisis.

China is prepared to play a role in settling the conflict in Ukraine, with Beijing proposing its own ideas on how to end the conflict. Wang called on all parties to engage in dialogue and negotiations to achieve a fair and long-term peace agreement.
