China Tackles Rising Chikungunya Fever Cases in Guangdong Province

China’s Guangdong province has pledged “decisive” measures to combat the spread of chikungunya fever, which reported nearly 3,000 new cases last week. The disease, transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, causes symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, and rash.

According to authorities, most new cases were in Foshan, with Guangzhou recording fewer than 70 cases. Provincial Governor Wang Weizhong called for “more resolute” measures to combat the outbreak, while experts urged swift action to prevent further spread.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has warned of the importance of public health and social stability in fighting the disease. Chikungunya fever is a viral illness that cannot be transmitted through direct contact with others.
