China will return about 200 of its nationals who were found in scam-running compounds on the Thai-Myanmar border, according to a Thai security official. The move comes as part of a multinational effort to crack down on online operations run from the region. Over 1,300 foreigners have been detained at such compounds since January, according to UN reports. China’s assistant public security minister met with Myanmar and Thai officials in Myawaddy this week to discuss preventive measures against telecom fraud. The return of Chinese nationals is set to take place on a commercial aircraft from Thailand’s Mae Sot on Thursday.
