China and the US have taken steps to clear export hurdles, but analysts warn that Washington’s crackdown on transshipments could reignite tensions with Vietnam. Progress was announced last week after high-level talks in London, signaling a thaw in relations. However, both sides still need to restore access to critical technologies and high-priority exports.
The US government has revoked licensing requirements for ethane shipments to China, allowing major exporters to resume exports. Energy Transfer and Enterprise Products Partners are among those who will benefit from the move. Meanwhile, Siemens has confirmed that its software is now available again to Chinese clients.
Despite these steps forward, analysts caution that tensions could resurface in Vietnam if Washington’s export restrictions continue to limit Chinese access to critical technologies.
