A 1,959-foot-tall skyscraper in northern China’s Tianjin region, known as “China 117,” is set to resume construction next week. The building was left dormant since 2015 when its developer went bankrupt, but new investors have stepped in to revive the project.
The skyscraper, designed by ECADI and P&T Group, originally planned for a luxury hotel, office space, and financial center. It would be the second tallest building in China and the fifth-tallest in the world if completed. However, due to changes in Chinese laws, which now ban new skyscrapers taller than 1,640 feet, construction began before these regulations were put in place.
New investors have reportedly stepped in to complete the project, which is expected to be finished by 2027. Construction resumed after years of unoccupation when the building’s developer, Goldin Financial Holdings, ran into financial distress.
While some details about the project remain scarce, experts hope that its completion will increase confidence among the public and help boost China’s real estate market.
