China’s orbiting space station, Wentian lab module, witnessed a successful second series of extravehicular activities (EVAs) by its crew on Tuesday morning. Astronauts Cai Xuzhe and Song Lingdong worked alongside Wang Haoze for 8.5 hours to install protective structures for the station’s power system cables. The task was crucial in mitigating the risk of damage from space debris collisions.
The primary objective of this EVA was a repeat of their previous record-breaking achievement, surpassing NASA astronauts’ 9-hour and 56-minute spacewalk duration. The crew has been busy with tasks such as equipment inspection and maintenance, system-wide pressure emergency drills, and preparations for upcoming EVAs.
Since the completion of their second EVA, the crew has completed nearly half of their space journey. Their mission includes a series of in-orbit scientific experiments and technological tests. They are also scheduled to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, known as Spring Festival, during their stay.
The China Manned Space Agency has expressed confidence in the crew’s ability to complete their tasks successfully. The agency revealed that the crew will welcome the upcoming holiday season with a variety of events and activities.
