A fireball pierced the atmosphere above Louisiana on Saturday, prompting concerns about space debris, but experts say it posed no danger and was likely a small, defunct device from a commercial imaging satellite. The satellite, Gaojing SuperView 1-02, was decommissioned two years ago and weighs around 560kg (1,234.5 pounds). It re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at an altitude of 530km, producing a spectacular light show that was visible across several states, including Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri.
