Chip Kelly Leaves Ohio State as Raiders Take Over Offense

Chip Kelly, the newly hired offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders, has left a lasting impact on his former team at Ohio State. The Buckeyes phenom wide receiver Jeremiah Smith expressed heartbreak over Kelly’s departure on social media, with a “Nooooo” caption and a broken heart emoji.

Smith had an incredible freshman season under Kelly, catching 75 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning him first-team all-Big Ten honors. His performance in the College Football Playoff was particularly impressive, as he combined for 290 yards and four touchdowns in victories against Tennessee and Oregon.

However, Smith’s commitment to Ohio State predates Kelly’s arrival. He signed with the Buckeyes in 2023, long before Kelly joined the program as coordinator. Despite this, Smith showed his loyalty to the team by reacting emotionally to news of Kelly’s departure.

Tegra Tshabola, another Ohio State player, shared a similar reaction on social media, captioning his response “Broooo” followed by multiple broken heart emojis.

Kelly’s exit marks the second time an Ohio State coordinator has left the program in search of new opportunities. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles departed for Penn State earlier this year.
