Chip Kelly Returns to NFL as Las Vegas Raiders OC

Chip Kelly, 61, has joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their new offensive coordinator after leaving his post at Ohio State University. Kelly, who won a national championship with the Buckeyes last year, cited the team’s alignment between ownership, general manager, personnel, and head coach as the reason for his departure.

Kelly expressed his love for his time at Ohio State but admitted that the NFL offers a unique challenge he cannot resist. “The one thing about the NFL that I love is it’s the ultimate level of competition,” he said. This marks Kelly’s third stint with an NFL team, having previously served as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

As offensive coordinator for the Raiders, Kelly will have the opportunity to call plays and take on a more familiar role in the NFL. The decision comes just one year after Kelly returned from his previous stint in the league.
