Chipotle executives said consumers are willing to pay higher prices at the chain’s fast-casual restaurants if they receive generous portions, high-quality ingredients, and value for their money. The company reported a 30.4% increase in food, beverage, and packaging costs as a result of this focus.
In the fourth quarter, Chipotle saw a 5.4% increase in comparable restaurant sales due to higher transactions and average checks. CEO Scott Boatwright attributed the success to focusing on high-quality ingredients, healthy options, and generous portions that appeal to consumers across different income groups.
The company has also expanded its partnership with Strava, a mobile app for active people, offering motivational text messages, exclusive content, and promotions designed for healthy lifestyles. Additionally, Chipotle is developing an artificial intelligence assistant to help with the customer journey when ordering through the digital channel.
Meanwhile, Apple is facing another regulatory probe in China’s critical market. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) is considering a formal investigation into Apple’s App Store fees and policies, citing concerns over taking cuts of up to 30% of in-app spending and blocking third-party payment services.
