Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. for $500 Million Over Defamation Claims

Singer Chris Brown is suing Warner Bros., Ample, and the producers of Investigation Discovery’s docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” for allegedly defamation-libel and infliction of emotional distress.

Brown, 35, filed a lawsuit in California’s Superior Court for Los Angeles County on January 21. He claims that the documentary labeled him as a serial rapist and abuser without evidence, damaging his reputation and business opportunities.

One accuser, Jane Doe, alleged Brown raped her in 2020, but her credibility was previously discredited after being identified as an aggressor herself. The lawsuit states that Brown has never been convicted of any sex crimes, despite the documentary painting him as a “serial rapist” and “sexual abuser.”

Brown’s attorneys say he has worked to redeem his reputation over the past decade, including pleading guilty to assault and making criminal threats in 2009 and completing community labor and domestic violence counseling. They claim the documentary ignores this growth and amplifies stale accusations with demonstrable falsehoods.

The lawsuit also addresses Doe’s previous lawsuits against Brown, which were dismissed after she was found dishonest. The complaint alleges that the documentary contained false claims and violated journalistic professional standards, causing damage to Brown’s career and business opportunities.

Brown is seeking $500 million in damages and a jury trial, claiming that the producers intentionally promoted false information despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims. His attorney stated that the actions undermine not only Brown’s efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.
