Chris Kreider Traded to Anaheim Ducks from New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have traded winger Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for prospect Carey Terrance and a third-round draft pick that originally belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs. To make the deal happen, Kreider waived his 15-team no-trade list, which added Anaheim to the list.

Kreider had played his entire 13-year career with the Rangers but will now take on the final two years of his contract, paying $6.5 million annually, to help create cap flexibility for the team heading into free agency. The move is part of the Rangers’ efforts to shake up their roster after missing the playoffs.

“We want to thank Chris Kreider for all of his contributions to the Rangers organization,” said general manager Chris Drury. “Chris has been an integral part of some of the most iconic moments in Rangers history… We wish him and his family all the best.”

The Anaheim Ducks, meanwhile, are looking to make big swings to move forward and make the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They hired coach Joel Quenneville last month, who is the second-winningest NHL coach of all time.

Kreider will bring a clutch performer with size, speed, and special teams expertise to the Ducks’ lineup. The team also gains back a fourth-round draft pick that went to New York in the Jacob Trouba trade. Terrance, 20, addresses an organizational need for the Rangers as a young center who won back-to-back world junior championship gold medals with Team USA.
