Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley spoke out about their experience behind bars after being released from federal prison. The couple, who were freed about one month ago, served two years for bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. They received a pardon from President Donald Trump in May.
The former “Chrisley Knows Best” stars described difficult conditions in prison, with Todd reporting issues of black mold and asbestos at his facility in Florida. Julie, who was held in Kentucky, said she developed health problems including asthma. However, their daughter Savannah, 26, emerged as their strongest advocate, campaigning for their release.
Savannah’s efforts paid off when President Trump personally informed her of the pardon decision. Critics questioned whether the Chrisleys deserved the pardon, but Todd defended it, citing concerns about the jury makeup and comparing their case to other presidential pardons.
Despite serving time, the couple remains unapologetic about their lifestyle. However, they said they’re now focused on prison reform, inspired by the people they met while incarcerated. The family plans to return to television with a new show on the Lifetime network and are considering relocating to Charleston, South Carolina.
