Christopher Nolan is set to bring ancient myth to life with his new adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, a follow-up project to his Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer. Universal Studios announced plans to release the film in July 2026, promising an epic experience shot using brand-new Imax technology.
Nolan has long been drawn to giant-scale formats and previously employed them in films like Interstellar, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight Rises. His new project joins a list of notable adaptations of Homer’s Odyssey, including the 1954 Italian film Ulysses starring Kirk Douglas and Silvana Mangano.
Casting for Nolan’s adaptation includes Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. Hathaway expressed her gratitude to Nolan after he gave her a role in his sci-fi epic Interstellar, citing a positive experience that helped her overcome online backlash. The film marks a rare screen adaptation of Homer’s foundational saga, bringing the ancient epic poem to life for a new generation of audiences.
