SNL has brought back its classic segment “Church Chat” for its latest broadcast, featuring Dana Carvey reprising his iconic role as the Church Lady. The segment saw Carvey mock celebrities and politicians, including former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and Hunter Biden.
Carvey’s first guest was Sherman, who joked about being “surprised to be here.” Carvey quipped that Sherman should repent for her involvement in alleged “sexual peccadilloes” with only 17 days left in Christmas. Their exchange played off the recent controversy surrounding President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter.
Carvey’s second guest was David Spade, who played himself as a co-host of an SNL-themed podcast called “Fly on the Wall.” Spade reflected on being targeted by critics due to his last name and accused others of doing the same to him. Carvey shot back with his signature catchphrase, “Well, isn’t that special.”
The segment’s final guest was Juan Soto, a Major League Baseball free agent, who joked about signing with the Mets instead of the Yankees. Carvey urged Soto to use his resources to help those in need.
SNL also released a parody trailer for its sequel film “Gladiator II,” featuring Kenan Thompson and Pete Mescal singing and rapping about Rome and Broadway musicals. The show’s Weekend Update segment poked fun at the search for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, with anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che making light of the situation.
The latest episode also featured a sketch where Timothée Chalamet impersonated Bob Dylan, while Chloe Fineman and James Austin Johnson delivered impressive impressions of the musician.
